Terms of Use
In plain words. CookDrop saves recipes you find and helps you cook from them. Recipes you import from other sites still belong to their authors; you save them for your own personal use. Reading a recipe is automated and can get things wrong, so check it before you cook. Nutrition figures are estimates, not medical advice. CookDrop Plus is sold through Apple as an auto-renewing subscription at the price shown in the App, and renews until you cancel it in your Apple account.
1. The agreement
These Terms of Use (the "Terms") are a legal agreement between you and the developer of CookDrop, an independent developer based in Canada ("CookDrop", "we", "us", "our"). They cover the CookDrop app for iPhone (the "App"), the import service the App uses, and the website at cookdropapp.com (together, the "Service").
By downloading, installing or using the App you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App. You must be old enough to enter into a binding agreement in your country, or have a parent or guardian agree on your behalf. The App is not intended for children under 13.
2. What CookDrop does
The App saves recipes. You give it a link to a social post or web page, pasted text, or a photo, and the import service reads it and returns a recipe with a title, ingredients, steps, servings and times. You review the result and save it to your iPhone. Saved recipes can be organized into cookbooks, scaled to a different number of servings, converted between units, added to a meal plan, and followed step by step in cook mode. The Discover tab offers recipes written for CookDrop.
The App requires an iPhone running a supported version of iOS. Importing needs an internet connection; recipes you have already saved can be opened without one.
Reading a recipe is automated, uses AI models, and is imperfect. A quantity, a unit, a temperature, a time or a step can be wrong or missing, and some posts and pages cannot be read at all, for example private posts, pages behind a login, or videos where the recipe is only spoken. The App shows you the recipe before you save it and lets you edit it. Check it against the source before you cook.
3. Your license
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the App on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store's usage rules, for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. This license is for use only; we and our licensors keep all other rights.
4. Recipes from other sites
Recipes, photos and text that you import from other websites and apps remain the property of their authors and publishers. CookDrop does not claim any rights in them. The App saves a copy on your device, with a link to the source, for your personal use: planning, shopping and cooking.
You are responsible for what you import and what you do with it. Import only content you are allowed to access, and do not republish, sell or distribute other people's recipes or photos from the App in a way their authors have not permitted. Sharing a recipe from the App is meant for sending it to people you cook with, not for publishing it.
Recipes you write yourself in the App are yours. They are stored on your device and we do not receive them, except for the parts you send to the import service when you use a feature that needs it (see the Privacy Policy).
If you are an author or publisher and believe the Service handles your content in a way that infringes your rights, write to hello@cookdropapp.com with the address of the content and we will look into it promptly.
5. Nutrition, allergies and food safety
Nutrition figures in the App are estimates calculated automatically from the ingredient list. They can be wrong, and they are not medical, dietary or nutritional advice. Do not rely on them to manage a medical condition; ask a doctor or a registered dietitian.
The App does not check recipes for allergens, safe cooking temperatures or safe storage times, and answers from "Ask CookDrop", including substitutions, are generated by an AI model and can be wrong. You are responsible for checking ingredients against any allergy or dietary need, and for handling and cooking food safely.
6. Free use
You can use the App without paying. Free use includes 5 imports a week, cookbooks, servings scaling, the meal plan and Discover. The App shows how many imports you have left and when the count resets. We may change what is included free in future versions.
7. CookDrop Plus
CookDrop Plus removes the weekly limit on imports and unlocks cook mode, unit conversion, nutrition estimates, the "Ask CookDrop" assistant, and printing and PDF export. It is offered through Apple's in-app purchase system in these forms:
| Plan | Billing |
|---|---|
| Yearly | Auto-renewing subscription, every year. US$39.99 in the United States. May start with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers, or with a paid introductory period shown in the App. |
| Monthly | Auto-renewing subscription, every month. US$6.99 in the United States. |
Prices, and any free trial or introductory offer, are shown in the App in your local currency before you buy. They vary by country and can change over time. The price in the App at the time of purchase is the one that applies. A change to an existing subscription's price is handled by Apple, which will notify you and, where required, ask for your consent before it takes effect.
To keep the import service available to everyone, we may apply reasonable limits to automated or abusive use, including for Plus subscribers.
8. Subscriptions and trials
- Payment is charged to the Apple ID you use in the App Store when you confirm the purchase, or at the end of the free trial if you started one.
- Automatic renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period at the price shown unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID is charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Free trial. When a plan offers a free trial, it is available to customers who have not used a CookDrop trial before, as determined by Apple. The trial converts to a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before that. Any unused part of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a different CookDrop Plus plan. If you ask for a reminder, the App schedules a notification on your device before the trial ends; the reminder depends on notifications being allowed, and you remain responsible for cancelling in time.
- Managing and cancelling. You can see, change and cancel subscriptions on your iPhone in Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or in the App Store app. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Plus until the end of the period you already paid for.
- Switching plans. Moving between the monthly and yearly plans is handled by Apple according to its upgrade and downgrade rules.
9. Cancellation and refunds
Because every purchase is made through Apple, refunds are handled by Apple under its terms, not by us. You can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Cancelling a subscription does not refund the current period. Nothing in this section limits rights you have as a consumer under the law of your country that cannot be excluded by agreement.
10. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent or sublicense the App or any part of it;
- reverse engineer, decompile or otherwise try to obtain the App's source code, except where the law expressly allows it despite this term;
- bypass, disable or interfere with purchase checks, the import limit or any other feature of the App;
- call the import service from anything other than the App, or use it to collect recipes or other content in bulk;
- import content that is unlawful, or that you have no right to access;
- use the App to break any law, or in a way that harms us, Apple, recipe authors or other people.
11. Ownership
The App, this website, and everything in them except the recipes you import or write (including the software, design, text, photos, the Discover recipes, the CookDrop name and logo) belong to us or our licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. These Terms do not give you any right to use our name or logo. If you send us feedback or suggestions, you agree we may use them without any obligation to you.
12. Apple and third parties
The App is distributed by Apple through the App Store, and purchases are processed by Apple. Your use of the App Store and of in-app purchases is also subject to Apple's terms, including the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. The import service runs on Vercel and uses AI model providers through OpenRouter. Usage analytics and error reports go to PostHog. The App shows no ads. A later version may include advertising measurement software from Meta and TikTok, used only to measure our own ads as described in section 9 of the Privacy Policy; turning off tracking never limits what the App does.
Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Pinterest and the websites you import from are not affiliated with CookDrop and do not endorse it. Their names are used only to describe where recipes can be saved from. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms, and they can change in ways that stop imports from working.
13. No warranty
The App is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, and any warranty that the App will be error-free or uninterrupted, that any particular post or page can be imported, or that recipes, quantities, conversions, timers, nutrition estimates or assistant answers will be accurate. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, recipes, profits or goodwill, arising out of or relating to the App or these Terms, even if we have been told such damages are possible. Recipes are stored only on your device; keep a backup of your iPhone. Our total liability for all claims relating to the App will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for the App in the 12 months before the claim and USD 50. These limits do not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
15. Indemnity
You agree to defend, indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the App, to the extent permitted by the law that applies to you.
16. Termination
You can stop using the App at any time by deleting it; remember to cancel any subscription separately. We may suspend or end your license, or your access to the import service, if you materially breach these Terms. Sections that by their nature should survive (including sections 4, 5, 11, 13, 14, 15 and 18) survive termination.
17. Changes
We may update the App, add or remove features, and change these Terms. When we change the Terms we will post the new version here with a new effective date, and if the change is significant the App will point to it. If you keep using the App after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the App and cancel any subscription.
18. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Canada and of the Canadian province in which we are based, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be brought in the courts of that province. If you live in a country whose consumer protection law gives you the right to rely on your local law or courts, that right is not affected. Before starting any formal proceeding, please write to us; most problems can be sorted out by email within a few days.
19. Terms required by Apple
The following terms apply because the App is distributed through Apple's App Store:
- Acknowledgement. These Terms are between you and us only, not with Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the App and its content.
- Scope of license. Your license is limited to a non-transferable license to use the App on Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, except that the App may be accessed and used by other accounts associated with you via Family Sharing or volume purchasing.
- Maintenance and support. We are solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support for the App. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support.
- Warranty. We are solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent not disclaimed. If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price of the App to you. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the App, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses attributable to a failure to conform to a warranty are our responsibility.
- Product claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the App or your possession or use of it, including product liability claims, claims that the App fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar law.
- Intellectual property claims. If a third party claims the App or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement and discharge of that claim.
- Legal compliance. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Developer contact. Questions, complaints and claims about the App can be sent to hello@cookdropapp.com.
- Third-party terms. You must comply with any applicable third-party terms when using the App.
- Third-party beneficiary. Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and upon your acceptance of them Apple has the right, and is deemed to have accepted the right, to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
